Regency chimney-piece restoration

A complex restoration project this Regency period chimney-piece, probably originally from a Library, was in a very poor condition. Excessive heat and a smoking fire place had affected the structural integrity of the soffit which collapsed and had to be re-inforced. The plinth blocks had also begun to deteriorate and the left hand example had to be replaced in its entirety. Extensive tests were undertaken and much of the staining was removed. The chimney-piece has been re-fitted on a modern veined statuary marble hearth.
