Antique Gothic Bardiglio Marble Chimney-piece

An early 19th century, English, Bardiglio, marble chimney-piece circa 1840. Both jamb and the frieze are ornamented with sunken panels with boldly cut gothic arches and the paterae with quatrefoils.

The Bardiglio marble, from which the chimney-piece has been cut, comes from Carrara, and in a variety of forms, this being a particularly deeply veined variant.
