A mid 18th Century Beer Stone Chimney-piece corresponding to a designed by Sir William Chambers and almost certainly carved by Joseph Wilton.

The restoration of this Chimney-piece required the dismantling of both jambs and their reassembly correctly. The Chimney-piece was removed from Parkstead House which William Chambers designed in the early 1760s. Chambers used a similar Chimney-piece in marble for the dressing room of Gower House, Whitehall, several years later. Wilton worked extensively with Chambers and the crispness of the carving of the frieze is typically of his hand. Courtesy of James Graham Stewart
