A late 18th Century English Statuary and Brocatello marble Chimney-piece.

This Chimney-piece was in a fragmented state. Much of the Brocatello veneer marble had separated, and the Chimney-piece had been very poorly stored. It's restoration was consequently a time consuming process. Removed from 27 Portman square when it was demolished in the early 1960s, the central tablet, which is carved in high relief, represents the love of Cupid and Psyche. Courtesy of a London Estate.
