Our involvement with this project called for the re-carving of a marble pillaster and the reconstruction of the cornice, architrave and plinth blocks. The late 18th Century Grate within the opening, is an outstanding example of the high quality workmanship in wrought iron and engraved steel. It is contemporary with the Chimney-piece, and was almost certainly made by James Oldham for Edward Knight, between 1781-2. The carving of Flaxman's Chimney-piece is of extraordinary high quality, and was carved when Flaxman was in his late 20s. Courtesy of James Graham Stewart.
